Last July 3rd, a group of colleagues faced off in the first GITIS company Five-a-Side Football Tournament. Despite the early afternoon heat, the four teams battled it out over three round-robin match days and two intense finals, which crowned the Yellow Team as tournament champions.
A day built on sport and teamwork
The round-robin stage put all four teams to the test in matches fought down to the final minute, building competitive tension that kept players and supporters engaged throughout. The two concluding finals delivered the most anticipated action of the day, before handing the title to the Yellow Team.
The value of team building through sport
Initiatives like this stem from a clear belief: teamwork on the pitch is the same teamwork needed every day at work. Five-a-side football, in particular, demands quick coordination, mutual trust, and the ability to adapt to teammates’ decisions — skills that naturally carry over into how we work together.
Sharing a sporting challenge outside the professional context breaks down hierarchical distances and creates opportunities to get to know one another that rarely emerge in the daily routine. People discover each other in a different role, learn to trust a colleague from another department, and build more genuine relationships.
More than just a scoreboard
The real result of days like this, though, isn’t found on the scoreboard: it’s the time spent together, the competitive spirit on the pitch, the banter, and the laughter shared over refreshments after the games. Moments that strengthen our team spirit beyond the workplace — and that carry over, day after day, into how we work side by side.
Thank you to all the participants for your energy and fair play!
